NOTE: Sakai will not run live after December 31, 2011.
Blackboard will be the only live LMS in use for AAP after December 31, 2011. Faculty will still have access to their Sakai materials at the same URL (http://sakai.jhu.edu), but will need to bring their materials into Blackboard for upcoming semesters. See more information about the Blackboard migration.
Sakai is a robust course management system. It allows faculty to create and present content, communicate with students, create and score objective assessments, and perform administrative course functions (like recording grades and posting announcements.) Sakai is used to deliver AAP's fully online courses, and to supplement face-to-face courses.
How It's Used
Sakai's applications are as varied as the instructors who use it. Faculty who teach classroom-based courses use Sakai to
- store course documents,
- prompt discussions before class or extend them after class,
- provide students an online space to complete group assignments,
- invite participation from professional colleagues.
