Asynchronous Training Catalog

Whether you are a veteran online educator or an instructor to new to online teaching, we have a variety of training ranging from basics of Blackboard to advanced-uses online tools. As IRC trainers, we serve instructors teaching at Johns Hopkins University‘s Advanced Academic Programs. We provide training and resources on pedagogical and technical topics, including Blackboard (Bb), Panopto, and strategies for designing and delivering your online course.

Blackboard Basics

Blackboard Asynchronous Training (BAT)
A self-paced course on the core skills of Blackboard course building, revising and delivering, delivered through the Blackboard Learning Management System. The BAT fulfills the instructor training requirement. Time: Approximately 6-7 hours total; self-paced with required assignment checkpoints.

Advanced Blackboard Asynchronous Training (BAT)
A self-paced course on the advanced tools of Blackboard, which include Blogs, Grade Center, Groups, Journals, Rubrics, and Wikis. You can select which tools you are interested in learning about based on the tools you will be using in your course. Prerequisite: Completed the BAT; Time: Total time will depend on the number of topics you select.

 

Course Content/Multimedia

Panopto  (Asynchronous)
JHU AAP‘s synchronous meeting tool is perfect for one-on-one office hours or class meetings. This self-paced course will review the basics of using Panopto, setting up your meeting room, and recording meetings. Time: approximately 2 hours; self- paced with required assignment checkpoints.

VoiceThread  (Asynchronous)
VoiceThread is a great tool to improve student engagement and active learning. Here we will show how to create and share an interactive VoiceThread. Time: approximately 2 hours; self- paced with required assignment checkpoints.

Technology Requirements

A computer, internet connection, headphone, and microphone is required. (Many computers come with built-in microphones that work well.) If you have any questions about these requirements, please message our training specialist.

Wikis
Set up a course, group, or individual Wiki in your course.  Select the best option for your student engagement needs. Learn how to manage and grade the wiki throughout the term.

Blogs
Set up a course, group, or individual blog in your course. Select the best option for your student engagement needs. Learn how to manage and grade the blog throughout the term.

Journals
Set up a course, group, or individual blog in your course. Select the best option for your student engagement needs. Learn how to manage and grade the blog throughout the term.

Advanced Grade Center
What is a weighted column?  How do I view and organize my grade center?  How do I download reports?  Take a tour of the possibilities of the grade center or ask specific questions about viewing and managing your grade center.

Advanced Tests and Quizzes
Learn how to import a test from a word document, create test pools, reuse test questions, and deploy tests in your course.  Ask specific questions about tests and quizzes for your course.
